The only fighter to place a blemish on Paige VanZant's professional MMA record is not convinced that the UFC's newly discovered golden child would be placed in a position where she can lose in devastating fashion, such as a title shot against reigning Polish champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
"If she got a title shot, I think that would be crazy," Torres told MMAFighting.com. "I don't think 'Daddy Dana' would give her a title shot, because he doesn't want to see her die."
While her comment may appear to be rooted in resentment, Torres was not shy to admit that she did feel some bitterness towards VanZant, a fighter she dispatched in dominant fashion under the Invicta FC banner. She also holds a win over Felice Herrig, yet she is not even sure about her placement on the UFC's upcoming show in Mexico City.
"People are going to say I'm jealous, but I'm going to say it: Yeah, I was a little jealous," Torres said. "I'm fighting in Mexico City, I'm excited about it. I don't even know if I'm on the main card in that yet."
Although disappointed that attractiveness appears to be the main gauge of a female fighter's mainstream value, she plans to eventually use that to her advantage.
"It's kind of crazy to see the amount of attention they got just because the looks that they portray. But that's what sells. That's what's going to make the company money and in return I guess that'll make me money in the end, in the long run."
