Who knew that a card filled with ranked fighters and plenty of high-stakes match-ups could lead to multiple major changes in the rankings? Unthinkable! UFC on FOX 15 produced a fresh batch of new contenders, most notably Paige VanZant, Max Holloway, and Aljamain Sterling. Luke Rockhold solidified himself as the #1 contender at middleweight while Beneil Dariush placed himself among the best at lightweight.
The latest UFC rankings can be found here, with individual ballots of media panelists available at the dropdown menu. Bloody Elbow is no longer a part of the rankings panel.
Pound-for-Pound: No changes
Women's Strawweight: Paige VanZant soars five spots to 7th, which knocks Joanne Calderwood down to 8th. Felice Herrig falls 3 places to 11th, Heather Clark is bumped to 12th, and Bec Rawlings replaces Seo Hee Ham at 15th.
Flyweight: Jussier Formiga moves into a 4th place tie with John Moraga. Kyoji Horiguchi, who fights Mighty Mouse this weekend, goes up to 7th, which sends Zach Makovsky down to 8th.
Bantamweight: Eddie Wineland benefits from Takeya Mizugaki's loss by assuming 6th spot. Mizugaki ends up only dropping to 7th. Aljamain Sterling makes his rankings debut at 10th. Iuri Alcantara (12th) and Mitch Gagnon (15th) both fell two places, while Frankie Saenz (13th) descended one place.
Women's Bantamweight: Amanda Nunes (8th) once again flip-flopped spots with Liz Carmouche (9th).
Featherweight: Max Holloway's impressive win over Cub Swanson apparently wasn't enough to actually overtake Cub in the rankings. Holloway moved 3 spots to 6th, while Swanson somehow stays at 5th. Words fail me. Dennis Bermudez, Nik Lentz, and Charles Oliveira are all bumped down to 7th-9th.
Lightweight: Michael Johnson is expected to face Ben Henderson in July, and "The Menace" has overtaken him in the rankings at 5th. Beneil Dariush becomes the latest lightweight prospect to enter the top 15 as he makes his way to 14th. Tony Ferguson (12th) and Al Iaquinta (13th) both go up a spot. Jim Miller is now unranked.
Welterweight: Ryan LaFlare (13th) swapped positions with Gunnar Nelson (14th).
Middleweight: Luke Rockhold is now the #1 contender, having gone from 4th to 1st over the weekend. Lyoto Machida falls two spots to 4th, while Jacare Souza, even coming off a win, slips to 2nd.
Light Heavyweight: Patrick Cummins (13th) ends up below Fabio Maldonado (12th) following his defeat to Ovince St. Preux, whose status at 7th remains unchanged.
Heavyweight: Matt Mitrione is now tied with Antonio Silva at 12th.
