In the fourth episode of the current The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil season, fans witnessed Anderson Silva as he found out about his failed UFC 183 drug test. His manager Ed Soares brought the bad news via a phone call during a training session with his team of bantamweight prospects. Silva's immediate reaction was:
"What? What do you mean? No, no, no, I didn't take anything. I didn't take any of this," Silva told Soares. "What I took was a shot of anti-inflammatory. No, man. F*ck. I'm telling you, man, I didn't do it! Are you crazy? I took hydroxocobalamin for three days. That was the only thing I took."
Silva then told Soares to call his wife and get all of his prescriptions for the medication. Then he went to his conditioning coach Rogerio Camoes and told him what happened. Here is their conversation:
"They said I failed the doping test," Silva told Camoes. "What a mess!"
"You didn't take it?" Camoes asks.
"For Christ's sake, Master!" Silva responds.
"You didn't take steroids?" Camoes asks.
"No, Master! I've never taken any of that! Are you crazy? Am I crazy? I've never taken any of that," Silva persists. "I don't know what happened."
Silva tested positive for the anabolic steroids drostanolone and androstane in an out-of-competition test before UFC 183. He also tested positive for drostanolone, as well as anti-anxiety and insomnia medication in his post-fight drug test. Silva insists upon his innocence to this day and has yet to step before the Nevada Athletic Commission for a formal hearing.
