Luke Rockhold just completely dominated a former UFC light heavyweight champion in the main event of UFC on Fox 15. Rockhold did eat a couple of punches from Lyoto Machida early, but he dropped him quickly and totally dominated him on the ground from then on. After battering him late to close out the round, he came out in the second and put Machida away by submission.
After connecting with a few hard shots in the first, Machida looked to slip and Rockhold went for a guillotine. He may have been dropped by a Rockhold shot, but it was hard to tell. He was never able to secure the guillotine though and settled for top position for a while. He eventually got Machida's back after a scramble and unloaded with punches. He looked for the neck and landed a big elbow at the horn.
Machida was really wobbly walking to his corner, and looked to be in big trouble.
He came out for the second still glazed over and threw a few strikes with nothing on them before Machida went to the ground. He tried to cover up a bit, but Rockhold took his back and flattened him out. Machida wasn't even really defending, so Rockhold just slipped his arm under the chin and choked him. Machida quickly submitted.
The win was likely the biggest of Rockhold's career and it's hard to deny him a title shot after that. He has won four bouts in a row, all by finish, since a knockout at the hands of Vitor Belfort in 2013.
