After Phil Davis' lackluster three round affair with Ryan Bader at UFC on FOX 14 in January, it was reported that the 205lber had completed his contract with the UFC. Reports surfaced after the Bader loss confirming that 'Mr Wonderful' was renegotiating new terms with MMA's flagship promotion. Since then, however, there has been no word of a new deal being struck between Davis and the UFC. MMAsun's Jason Coles suggested on Twitter that the NCAA division 1 wrestling standout is close to securing a deal with Bellator:
So Phil Davis is near a lock to Bellator. UFC has right to match...doubt they do. Expect him to sign a Bellator offer sheet.

Davis winning Bellator title is good for Bellator AND UFC. Bigger name and talent than any Bellator LHW. UFC still shows it has best 205ers

Reports surrounding Phil Davis possibly jumping ship to Bellator have been confirmed by sources close to the situation at MMAFighting.
Phil Davis stamped his authority in the Octagon with an impressive 5-0 showing against a series of talented 205lb contenders, including the likes of Alexander Gustafsson and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira before his championship aspirations were extinguished with a sound loss to Rashad Evans. Since being conquered by Evans, the 6'2" competitor has been unable to find his footing in the UFC. Davis has bested both Lyoto Machida and Glover Teixeira but dropped decisions to Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader.
With Davis not reaching the monumental levels of hype he received during his initial UFC venture and taking into consideration his relatively dull fighting style, perhaps a switch to Bellator may be what's best for the UFC and 'Mr Wonderful'.
