The big fight on everyone's minds after this weekend is the much discussed Ronda Rousey vs. Cris Cyborg superfight. Both women won and won big this weekend, with Cyborg (Cristiane Justino) scoring a 46 second KO of Charmaine Tweet at Invicta 11 Friday night, only for Rousey to one up her with a 14 second submission of Cat Zingano at UFC 184. Immediately, the attention turned to a Rousey vs Justino fight - something that has been discussed off and on for the past few years.
Now, Cyborg has taken to Instagram to keep the war of words going:
Hey @RondaRousey let me know if you need Lorenzo's phone number #championVSchampion Hei Ronda se quiser te passo o número do Lorenzo! "Sabe di nada!!
#criscyborg #teamcyborg #InvictaFC #ufc #letsagree6monthsOlympictesting #noexcuses
Standing in the way of a Rousey vs. Cyborg fight is the weight difference. Rousey and Dana White have made it clear that they will not take a Catchweight fight and will demand the Featherweight Cyborg make the 135 pound Bantamweight limit to challenge champion Rousey. With Cyborg tweeting Sunday morning that her weight was at 175 pounds, such a cut does not look good. Still, Invicta President Shannon Knapp has her hopes up, calling the fight "closer than it has ever been."
Rousey and Cyborg are the clear top women's fighters in MMA, with Rousey holding the UFC Women's Bantamweight championship, Cyborg the Invicta FC Featherweight championship. Rousey has run through challengers in the UFC; aside from somewhat premature fights with Bethe Correia and Holly Holm, she does not have many options for challengers. Cyborg has gone 3-0 since returning to MMA as an Invicta fighter in 2013. In 2009, she defeated Gina Carano in the first WMMA superfight, and has gone undefeated ever since.
