The younger of the two Nurmagomedov brothers is the latest fighter from the North Caucasus to arrive in America.
World Series of Fighting matchmaker Ali Abel Aziz informed MMAFighting.com that Abubakar Nurmagomedov (9-1) has officially signed with the promotion.
Ranked the third best welterweight prospect in the BloodyElbow Scouting Report, Abubakar compiled a 8-0 record to begin his career, and appeared to be on a similar path as his brother was before him on the Russian regional scene. He was then matched up against fellow prospect Magomed Mustafaev and suffered his first career loss following a doctor stoppage after a competitive opening round of action. He rebounded last month with a TKO victory over Vladimir Gunzu at Fight Star - Battle on Sura 3.
Abubakar trains full-time under the tutelage of his father Abdulmanap at his brother's gym FightSpirit Team, which is also the training ground for the UFC's recent signee Islam Makhachaev. Islam is scheduled to debut with the promotion at UFC 187 in May, which is also the fight card that will feature Khabib's highly anticipated return.
