UFC 184 results: Tony Ferguson chokes out Gleison Tibau

Tony Ferguson picked up arguably the biggest win over his career with a first round submission victory over Gleison Tibau at UFC 184.

A lot of times, a fighter sees a fight disappear weeks out when his opponent gets injured. When a late replacement can be put into place, it's generally a less relevant or less talented fighter. In the case of Tony Ferguson, he got a pretty tough late replacement opponent - Gleison Tibau. It didn't matter to El Cucuy though - he choked out the veteran in under three minutes in their UFC 184 bout.

Ferguson came in riding a four-fight winning streak and was fighting his hometown. Tibau was competing in his 25th UFC bout, a lightweight record. But it was Ferguson that was on the attack right away, pressing the action and keeping Tibau on his heels. He finally hurt him with a big shot that made Tibau turtle up.

Instead of continuing to pound away on a turtled-up Tibau and not getting any effective offense through, he took the dazed fighter's back instead. After he rolled him over, he easily sunk a rear naked choke and got the tap. The finish came at 2:37 of the first round.

With the win, Ferguson's win streak is now one of the longest in the lightweight division. As for Tibau, his hopes of finally cracking the UFC rankings took a huge hit.
