Kimbo Slice vs. Ken Shamrock headlines Bellator event on June 20th in St. Louis

Your eyes aren't deceiving you - Kimbo Slice is fighting Ken Shamrock a little less than 4 months from today.

Last month, Bellator announced the return of former EliteXC star, backyard brawling legend, and UFC fighter Kimbo Slice, who hadn't competed in MMA since 2010. We now know when Slice's Bellator debut will be made, as well as his opponent. ESPN reports that Slice will fight 51-year-old Ken Shamrock in the main event of a June 20th card to be televised live on Spike TV from St. Louis, Missouri.

You may recall that the 41-year-old Kimbo (4-2) was supposed to fight Shamrock way back in 2008 in the now-defunct EliteXC, but Shamrock pulled out at the last minute and was replaced by Seth Petruzelli, who KO'd Kimbo in 14 seconds and cemented himself as having pulled off MMA's greatest upset of all-time. EliteXC went under, Kimbo soon went to TUF 10, where he provided the reality show with its highest ever ratings. Even after losing to Roy Nelson on the show, Slice was given a UFC contract and memorably beat Houston Alexander before getting released after a TKO loss to Matt Mitrione. After his UFC release, Kimbo took up boxing and went 7-0 (6 KOs) against largely sub-par opposition (to put it kindly).

Shamrock (28-15-2) is a UFC hall-of-famer whose memorable career stretches back to the mid-1990s Pancrase tournaments, and of course UFC 1. Over the past 10 years, he's compiled a record of just 3-7, including a pair of losses to bitter rival Tito Ortiz, once to Rich Franklin, and Kazushi Sakuraba in PRIDE. It's been nearly 5 years since Shamrock's last MMA fight, a hamstring injury TKO to Mike Bourke in South Africa.

In case you're wondering, June 20th is a Saturday, but the UFC scheduled a daytime event in Berlin, so the UFC show won't go head-to-head with Bellator that evening. Additionally, Seth Petruzelli retired in 2013, but maybe he can be on standby in case something happens to Shamrock again.
