UFC 187 promises to be one of the most stacked pay-per-views in recent history, and the latest addition to the May 23rd card features recent UFC women's strawweight title challenger Rose Namajunas. The 22-year-old is back in action against Nina Ansaroff in Las Vegas, Nevada. UFC officials confirmed the news last night, along with the addition of a flyweight bout between Justin Scoggins and Josh Sampo.
Namajunas (2-2) made big waves on The Ultimate Fighter 20, a special season dedicated to the introduction of the women's 115 lbs division, with the winner of the 16-woman tournament crowned UFC champion. She impressively submitted all 3 of her opponents en route to the final showdown with former Invicta FC champion Carla Esparza, and was even a slight favorite heading into their title fight last December. Esparza would go on to submit Namajunas with a rear-naked choke in the 4th round.
Ansaroff (6-4) came into the UFC on a five-fight winning streak after dropping 3 of her first 4 professional fights. The 29-year-old debuted in November against Brazil's Julianna Lima, but ended up on the wrong end of a rather uneventful unanimous decision. Ansaroff has finished all but one of her opponents by stoppage, including a KO of Munah Holland in her sole Invicta appearance in 2013.
The UFC 187 main event is a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Anthony Johnson, while the latest attempt to book Chris Weidman vs. Vitor Belfort is the co-main event of the evening.
