A potential #1 contender match-up between John Dodson and Zach Makovsky has been added to UFC 187 in Las Vegas.

UFC 187 is shaping up to be an outstanding pay-per-view, and matchmaker Sean Shelby has booked another great flyweight bout for the Memorial Day weekend card on May 23rd. John Dodson returns after almost a year out of the Octagon to face Zach Makovsky in Las Vegas, Nevada. The news was confirmed on tonight's UFC Fight Night pre-show broadcast. It is unknown whether this fight will be on the main card or on the Fox Sports 1 preliminary card.

Dodson (16-6) is arguably the hardest puncher in the division and possibly all of MMA, and he was able to bust up John Moraga en route to a doctor's stoppage TKO last June. However, "The Magician" was sidelined for the rest of 2014 after tearing his ACL, which required surgery that has kept him out of action for the past several months. Dodson is the only person to do as much as win a round in any of reigning champion Demetrious Johnson's title defenses, and was able to record 2 knockdowns of his own before the champ rallied and won a unanimous decision.

Makovsky (19-5) bounced back from a tough loss to Jussier Formiga last August by besting Tim Elliott at last week's UFC Fight Night event in Broomfield, Colorado. "Fun Size" is 3-1 overall in the UFC, also holding wins over Josh Sampo and Scott Jorgensen. Makovsky came into the promotion as RFA's flyweight champion and he's currently ranked 9th by the UFC's voting panel.

Headlining UFC 187 is a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Anthony Johnson, with middleweight champion Chris Weidman taking on Vitor Belfort in the co-main. Donald Cerrone also matches up against Khabib Nurmagomedov in a much-anticipated lightweight tilt.
