Andrei Arlovski on Matt Mitrione: 'I have no idea why he's mad'

UFC heavyweight Andrei Arlovski responds to Matt Mitrione's callout in an interview with Bloody Elbow.

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier today, UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione turned to Twitter to vent his frustration at Andrei Arlovski. Mitrione believed that Arlovski turned down a fight with him, and made it quite clear that he'd be interested in meeting him in the octagon. Bloody Elbow's Steph Daniels reached out to Arlovski in regards to the situation, and here's what he had to say.

Why do you think Matt Mitrione targeted you on Twitter?

I have no idea why he's mad. Eric (friend and website/PR manager) just called me about it. I don't know, I don't know. He probably wants to fight. I'm smart enough to respond in a nice way, but he keeps coming at me. It's not up to me. It's up to the UFC and my manager and trainers. If they think it's a good fight, then we can fight. If not, he may have to fight someone else. If it's gonna happen, it will happen.

Is it a fight you would be interested in?

Everybody wants to fight Arlovski [laughs]. It doesn't matter to me. If the UFC thinks it's a good fight, then yes, I'm ready and willing to fight him. If they say the next guy is Mitrione, then he's the guy. It's all up to them.

Has the UFC been in contact with you about your next fight?

My manager is in contact with Joe Silva, so they're working on that. I plan to go to Belarus for a couple of weeks then I will be heading straight to Albuquerque for training.

What are your thoughts on the current PED problem?

I try not to judge anybody, but it's disappointing and makes the sport look very bad.
