A fight that has been in discussion repeatedly over the past year may finally come to fruition in a few months, as Khabib Nurmagomedov and Donald Cerrone is in discussion for UFC 187 in May.

While no bout agreements have been signed, MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported the news on UFC Tonight last Wednesday. Both fighters have agreed that this is the bout that interests them, so it likely just a matter of time before the contest is made official.

Khabib has been stuck on the sidelines nursing a knee injury since his last win back in April 2014. The victory came in the form of a unanimous decision against upcoming title challenger Rafael dos Anjos. It marked the Dagestan native's sixth straight win in the UFC, and extended his undefeated streak to an impressive 22-0. He will now look to add to that win streak en route to staking his claim at the lightweight crown.

His expected opponent, Cerrone, compiled a seven-fight win streak and is already 2-0 in 2015, with wins over Myles Jury and Benson Henderson just two weeks apart. Given "Cowboy's" current momentum, a match-up against Khabib will most likely determine the division's No. 1 contender.
