Middleweight contenders Ronaldo Souza and Yoel Romero were scheduled to clash at UFC 184 on February 28th in Los Angeles, but the fight was postponed when it was revealed that Jacare had been battling pneumonia. The UFC's plan was to reschedule the match-up for a different show, and they have stuck to their word. Ariel Helwani confirmed on UFC Tonight that the two men will take part in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 15 in Newark, New Jersey on April 18th.
Jacare (21-3, 1 NC) is 4-0 in the UFC and coming off a highly impressive submission win over Gegard Mousasi in September. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion has only been bested by Luke Rockhold in the past 6 years, and has been nothing short of dominant inside the Octagon.
Romero (9-1) is a perfect 5-0 at middleweight. The Olympic silver medallist for Cuba in freestyle wrestling is coming off a controversial but thrilling 3rd round TKO win over Tim Kennedy at UFC 178. Yoel's vicious striking as led to (T)KOs in all but one of his victories.
UFC on Fox 15 is headlined by Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold, which hopefully means that in case one of these two men is forced off the card, Jacare and Romero are in prime position to fill in if necessary. As it stands, April 18th will be an extremely pivotal night for the middleweight division.
