Ben Henderson saves UFC card, moves to welterweight against Brandon Thatch in two weeks

Two weeks from now, Ben Henderson will be moving up to welterweight to headline a show against Brandon Thatch.

Shortly after his contested decision loss against his friend in Donald Cerrone, former UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson will now be stepping in on very short notice to save an upcoming UFC show. Brandon Thatch was scheduled for a bout against Stephen Thompson two weeks from now, but as the latter fell out of the main event, Dana White states that Henderson 'begged' for the match up.

His wish was granted and Benson will now move up to welterweight and have just two weeks to prepare for a bout. It's a win for all parties as Henderson gets a chance to immediately get back on the horse after his first two-fight skid, and the fans get a far more intriguing match up this February.

The news was first announced by SBNation's Ariel Helwani at Fox Sports 1.

Hederson was originally slated to face Masvidal in April, and with the switch, Jorge will now receive a new opponent for UFC Fight Night 63.
