A few months ago, Wanderlei Silva posted a photograph alongside newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It was not the last of Wanderlei's political endeavors, as he, along with fellow former UFC fighter Jon Fitch, recently met with United States democratic candidate Bernie Sanders.
Sanders is the junior Senator from Vermont and was the longest-serving independent in US Congressional history. However, he became a member of the Democratic Party as of 2015 and is now a leading poll candidate in the 2016 US presidential elections.
Silva, Fitch and the founder of the Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association (MMAFA) Rob Maysey met with Sanders to discuss the Muhammad Ali act in the sport of MMA. The act was designed to reduce corruption and conflicts of interest in sports.
