UFC Sao Paulo recap: Who won the Glover Teixeira vs. Patrick Cummins fight?

Check out Bloody Elbow's recap of the UFC Fight Night: Sao Paulo co-main event between light-heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira and Patrick Cummins on Saturday night in Brazil.

Joshua Lindsey-USA TODAY Sports

UFC light-heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira picked up his second consecutive victory with a TKO win against Patrick Cummins in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night: Sao Paulo.

Cummins took Teixeira down twice at the beginning of the bout but was unable to do anything with top position and allowed Teixeira to get back to his feet quickly. The Brazilian had a clear advantage in the striking department, but Cummins didn't quit and traded shots with the 36-year old. The tides turned rapidly and Teixeira found himself throwing thunderous shots at the bloodied up Cummins. Referee Herb Dean called it off early in the second round because Cummins didn't have an answer for Teixeira's devastating punches.

Official Result: Glover Teixeira def. Patrick Cummins via TKO (Punches) at 1:12 of Round 2

What was the high point of the fight?

The high point of this fight was Teixeira's crisp striking. Despite getting taken down a couple of times, he was able to keep the fight standing for the most part. Cummins was able to trade with Teixeira on the feet early, but it didn't take long for Teixeira to display his very solid striking skills and outclass Cummins on the feet.

Where do these two go from here?

You have to assume that Teixeira is back in the title picture at 205 pounds after taking part in a two-fight skid last year. There aren't many contenders at the top of the light heavyweight division, and champ Daniel Cormier will likely meet Jon Jones in his next matchup. A potential No. 1 contender's bout between Anthony Johnson and Ryan Bader was recently booked, so most of the elite 205-pounders are currently scheduled to fight. A fight between Teixeira and Alexander Gustafsson, who is coming off a title loss to DC last month, could happen next and was supposed to happen this past June. Gustafsson or not, the Brazilian deserves a step up in competition in his next Octagon appearance.

Watch now, later, or never?

Of course go watch a brutal knockout from Glover Teixeira  -- why wouldn't you? (It won't take long, I promise!)
