An important fight in the Light Heavyweight division took place at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Belfort 3 as former title challenger Glover Teixeira took on the rising Patrick Cummins. For Teixeira, the fight was an opportunity to stay relevant at the top of the division and to entertain the home crowd. For Cummins, a win would catapult the Division 1 wrestler into the top ranks of the Light Heavyweight division.
Teixeira was able to get some good strikes to land on Cummins before getting taken down. Teixeira quickly popped right back before getting taken down again. Teixeira was able to hit a sweep to get the fight back to the feet where he began to tee off. Cummins gets hit by a hard combo from Teixeira. Cummins hit another takedown but Teixeira spent little time on the ground. Teixeira wobbled Cummins again late in the round with a combination, but the horn sounded ending the round. Cummins stumbled back to his corner.
Teixeira came out in the second round looking to end what he started in the first, pinning Cummins against the fence to land punches. A failed takedown attempt led to more punishment for Cummins as Teixeira unloaded. Teixeira pinned Cummins up against the fence and went to work while Cummins did nothing to defend. A series of left and right hooks prompt Herb Dean to step in and stop the fight.

Teixeira now improves his record to 24-4 with back to back wins in the past four months. Cummins is now 8-3 in professional MMA competition, losing for a second time in 2015.
