Dana White was very impressed with the tenacity of the women that graced the top of the UFC 193 card. Before Holly Holm shocked the world by knocking out Ronda Rousey in the headliner of the stadium show in Australia, women's strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk put on a striking clinic against challenger Valerie Letourneau. Letourneau put forth a good performance, but the champion busted up her eye badly and thumped her leg with dozens of kicks.
White spoke about visiting the ladies at the hospital during a recent interview on Joe Rogan's podcast (via MMA Junkie):
"I went to the hospital there and I had Joanna Jedrzejczyk there, I had Valerie Letourneau there and I had Ronda Rousey there," White said. "I’m walking from room to room going, ‘Jesus Christ, this is a crazy business we’re in, man.’ It’s just so crazy, these girls."
He also mentioned Letourneau's injuries specifically:
"Valerie Letourneau is – oh my God. Her eye was massive. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen, her eye. It was so bad. So then I’m like, ‘How’s your leg?’ Then she looks at me and pulls the covers over and shows me her leg. I’ve never seen anything like that. It was – I’m telling you, (she) is banged up right now."
He capped it off by paying a big compliment to the ladies, saying they're even tougher than the men:
"The women are tougher than the men," White said. "Woman have babies for Christ’s sake. They’re way tougher than us. Way tougher than the men."
