Ronda Rousey: A look back at her historic championship reign

New, comments

Michael Hutchinson looks back at the historic reign of the first UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey.

Six title defenses, five first round finishes and a whole bunch of records. Ronda Rousey's title reign was historic.

Her loss against Holly Holm was spectacularly devastating, but it doesn't take away from what Rousey has done. She will go down in history as one of the most dominant champions in UFC history.

Rousey was able to defend her title six times in a combined 17 minutes and 57 seconds. In six title fights, she averaged a time of three minutes in each fight. The former champ was able to clean through most of the division, and quickly dispatched top contenders like Cat Zingano, Alexis Davis and Sara McMann. She also successfully defended her championship against her rival Miesha Tate in one of her most competitive fights.

Time will tell if Holm is able to match Rousey's dominance as UFC Bantamweight Champion, but until then, let's look back at the string of fights that put Ronda Rousey, and female mixed martial arts, into the forefront of mainstream media.
