UFC 193 yielded one of the biggest upsets in the history of mixed martial arts, as Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey with a ferocious head kick to become the new women's bantamweight champion. The Preacher's Daughter handed Rousey her first professional defeat and did so in spectacular fashion.
Check out the play-by-play below:
R1: Rousey closes the distance behind a tight jab as Holm stays busy with circles. Holm connects on a short one-two off her back foot. Holm picks the right time to sit down on another salvo and it lands clean. Rousey lands a right, still in chase mode. Rousey clinches but can't hold position and Holm breaks the clinch with a left hand a kick. Holm steps in with a beautiful horizontal elbow and it scores, but Rousey clinches and hits a throw.
Rousey immediately goes after an arm but it's too loose and Holm shakes her off, though she eats a hard right from the champ while regaining her footing. Sharp left cross bobs Rousey's head back. Another left cross to Rousey's face. And another. We pause for Holm's lost mouthpiece. Holm lands a stiff inside low kick on the restart and, amazingly, takes Rousey down from the body lock. Rousey pops back up and continues to chase Holm, eating quick counters. 10- Holm.
R2: Holm pops the bloodied Rousey with a straight left. And another. Now Holm catches her with a side kick to the body and another left cross. Rousey flails in a straight-line attack and loses her balance due to a sharp pivot from Holm. Holm dings Rousey with a left cross that causes her to stumble, then Holm flattens her with a CroCop-esque left high kick to the jaw. Rousey is down and out.
