Are you looking for just one non-MMA person of prominence to help the cause of overturning a widely deemed unjust ban on an MMA fighter? Well I found someone! If Cher could turn back time, if she could find a way, she'd take back the 5 year ban issued to the UFC's Nick Diaz by the Nevada Athletic Commission. The 69-year-old Grammy-winning, Emmy-winning, Golden Globe-winning, and Oscar-winning singer/songwriter, entertainer, activist, actress, and everything in between, actually tweeted to her 2.8 million followers her support for Diaz by linking to the White House petition calling a lift of the NAC's ban.
Lift the NSAC ban from MMA fighter Nick Diaz. http://t.co/E5h1HYkKVu— Cher (@cher) October 5, 2015
Cher is best known as part of the 1960s husband and wife entertainment duo "Sonny & Cher", who managed numerous top 40 hits, an award-winning variety program, and international acclaim before their divorce in 1975. She still maintained major success in the 1980s even to present day, starring in Moonstruck, which netted her an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1988. Cher is also a prominent political activist, but I don't think anyone expected this to happen. After all, there's no other known instance of her tweeting or making as much as a vague MMA mention before.
As of this writing, there are nearly 66,800 signatures on this petition. For the petition to merit an official response from the White House, it needs to reach an even 100,000 by October 16th. If it doesn't, then presumably the beat goes on. Do you believe that this can be achieved? Or will a valiant effort to help out a suspended MMA star go down in flames just like Jesse James?
In an unconfirmed rumor started by myself, Cher personally called Nick Diaz and told him, "I got you babe."
