Khabib Nurmagomedov is quickly becoming the most cursed fighter on the UFC roster.
The Dagestani native was once again forced to withdraw from a scheduled bout following another injury suffered during training camp. Unlike his previous two knee injures, this one was a broken rib.
According to MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani, the injury occurred during the portion of Khabib's camp that was in Dagestan and not at the American Kickboxing Academy.
As a result, Khabib bowed out of his highly anticipated title eliminator bout against Tony Ferguson. Many expected that a win over Ferguson would propel Khabib towards a long-awaited title shot, especially considering his previous win against current champ Rafael dos Anjos.
Khabib also released an apology on his official Instagram page, which included a revelation that he was uncertain as to whether he will ever return to fighting.
"I want to apologize to my fans," Khabib said on Instagram. "I broke my rib, and again I am out of the fight. I really wanted to come back, I'm not sure if I will ever come back. Thanks to my fans and my sponsors. To Allah Praise."
I want to apologize to my fans. I broke my rib, and again I am out of the fight. I really wanted to come back, I'm not sure if i will ever come back. Thanks to my fans and my sponsors. According to MMAFighting.com, Edson Barbosa is targeted to step in and replace Khabib.
