Khabib Nurmagomedov is injured -- again. The unbeaten Russian lightweight just pulled out of his third-straight bout, as MMA Fighting reports. A rib injury forces Nurmagomedov out of his comeback fight against Tony Ferguson on December 11.

Nurmagomedov hasn't competed since an April 2014 win over now-UFC champion Rafael dos Anjos. Two consecutive knee-injuries have since hampered planned bouts against Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 and UFC 187. According to MMA Fighting, the 27-year old "tried his best to fight through the injury but could not get cleared". There is no word on when he will be able to return.

Nurmagomedov is considered by many as one of the best lightweights in the world and is the last man to beat the current 155-pound champion.

Edson Barbosa it targeted to step in for Nurmagomedov now to face Ferguson at the TUF 22 Finale in Las Vegas on December 11, that is headlined by a featherweight bout between Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes.

Helwani also added that the injury happened in Russia, not AKA.
