There was a huge outpouring of support for Nick Diaz after the Nevada Athletic Commission banned the UFC star for 5 years after he had tested positive for marijuana at UFC 183 in January. One of the biggest responses came from flyweight contender Henry Cejudo, who said he will not fight in Nevada right after the hammer was dropped. When he went on The MMA Hour two weeks ago, he doubled down by saying he would turn down a title shot if the fight was to be held in the Silver State.
At yesterday's UFC 192 Q&A, Cejudo was asked by a fan if he would really pass up a title shot, and his answer fell in line with the stance he's kept.
MMA Mania has the full transcription of his response:
"You guys are going to think I'm crazy. I've been the best in the world and I believe my self worth, it's more important to me than my net worth. Give it (the title shot) to somebody else. That's fine. It's no hurry, I know I'll be the best soon. I would be willing to give it up... So Nick can get his proper justice. And again, I love the UFC. You guys have done a tremendous job with me, you guys have treated me so well. But, man, I aint a slave to nobody. And I'll tell it to Dana [White], and I love him and the Fertittas, but if you really think about it the Fertittas and Dana White, they would do anything for each other. I'm just trying to help a fellow UFC member."
It is, of course, worth noting that Cejudo has never had a fight in Nevada in his MMA career and has never been booked by the UFC to fight in Nevada. The 28-year-old Olympic gold medalist will return to the cage in November against Jussier Formiga at UFC Fight Night in Mexico, which could net Cejudo a title shot should he win. It'll be interesting to see (if everything stays the same with Diaz) whether or not the UFC will put Cejudo's boycott to the test or if they'll continue booking him outside of Vegas.
