For the first few months of the Fedor sweepstakes, it was assumed that the UFC was in the running for the services of the legendary Russian heavyweight. However, once it was revealed that Fedor was potentially offered $2.5 million for a single New Year's Eve bout for the new Japanese promotion Rizin Fighting Federation, it became all too clear why Fedor did not sign with the UFC.

While Fedor was likely able to leverage a lucrative one-fight deal with Rizin, he refused to confirm the fight purse to Russian media when asked.

"I'm not going to comment on the various rumors from the press, "Emelianenko told Championat. "Information on the fees for my own fight is something that only two people know - that's Mr. Sakakibara and me. For more information on this and other questions, I'll answer the official press conference."

Fedor is scheduled to return to MMA for the first time in three years on December 31 at the Saitama Super Arena. His opponent is yet to be determined.
