UFC 192's Woodley on Hendricks bout cancellation: 'I'm counting this as a loss for him'

UFC welterweight Tyron Woodley is not pleased with Johny Hendricks, whose weight cutting problems led to their UFC 192 fight to be cancelled.

Tyron Woodley could've very easily had his only two UFC fights of the year both cancelled due to his opponents getting hospitalized while trying to cut weight. In January, Woodley still fought Kelvin Gastelum even though Gastelum weighed in at 180 pounds and had been suffering from flu-like symptoms leading up to the fight.

Today, on the eve of his big showdown with Johny Hendricks at UFC 192, he (and everyone else) learned that Hendricks had to be pulled from the card after being hospitalized for intestinal blockage and kidney stones during his weight cut. In an interview with MMA Fighting, Woodley voiced his frustration and considers this to be a loss for Hendricks:

"I'm frustrated, obviously," Woodley told MMAFighting.com. "I'm always trying to look for the lesson in things and positive signs. I believe things happen for a reason.

"I'm counting this as a loss for him. You got to make the weight. I'm sitting here at weight, wired, ready to wage war and now I'm not going to get that opportunity.

"Hopefully, I'm compensated accordingly because this shouldn't be a strike against me. It's almost as if I lost if I just get show money. I could have been knocked out in the first minute and just get show money. I hope and pray I am taken care of because I had a lot of plans for that win money.

Woodley also believes he should be fighting the Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit winner next, which given the state of the welterweight division and Hendricks' latest weight cutting issue, is a distinct possibility. But one thing to note is that Lawler and Condit don't fight until January, so Woodley would be on a 1+ year layoff should he get the next title shot.
