He beat Conor McGregor but he's still 'shocked' to be headlining a UFC card

Joseph Duffy is headlining Saturday's UFC Fight Night: Dublin against Dustin Poirier but it came as a surprise to the Irish fighter.

Not every fighter headlines the card in just their second bout in the Octagon. But not every fighter has a KO submission win over Conor McGregor.

Irish feather lightweight Joseph Duffy will be the man of the hour Saturday night against Dustin Poirier, but even he admits it's all moving pretty fast.

"It was definitely a bit of a shock," Duffy told MMAjunkie of his main event position. "I was the fight before the co-main event (at UFC Fight Night 72) in Glasgow, so I thought maybe I would be the co-main this time. But obviously when I got word I would be the main event, it makes sense for me to be the main event in Ireland."

But don't let that make you think the 27-year-old, 14-1 fighter isn't brash and bold.

He's giving Poirier much respect in the build up to their bout, but when the subject of Conor McGregor comes up, Duffy changes tone.

"I believe I can take Conor out just as quickly (in a rematch)," Duffy told Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour. "Everyone else has noticed Conor has greatly improved, and so am I. Everything Conor does, I feel can beat him at, he uses more kicks. I've been doing taekwondo since I was five. There's not an area I feel he can beat me."

UFC Fight Night: Poirier vs. Duffy takes place Saturday at Dublin, Ireland's 3Arena and will air on UFC Fight Pass starting at 1 p.m. ET.
