M-1 announces fights for Georgia event dedicated in the memory of former champion

Heavyweights Denis Smoldarev and Maro Perak headline the M-1 Challenge 55 fight card in February.

M-1 Global

On November 9, 2014, former M-1 heavyweight champion Guram Gugenishvili was killed in a tragic car accident at just 28-years-of-age. Less than three months later, his longtime promotion will host their season-opening event in the memory of the fallen prospect.

M-1 Challenge 55, which is scheduled to take place February 21 in Tbilisi, Georgia - Guram's home country - will feature a main event between heavyweights Denis Smoldarev and Maro Perak. Smoldarev is considered one of the top prospects in his division and is coming off his first career loss to the promotion's champion Marcin Tybura. Perak is also coming off a loss to the champion.

The event will also feature former M-1 heavyweight champion Kenny Garner against Chechen strongman Aslambek Musaev, a highly intriguing featherweight contest between BloodyElbow scouted prospect Pavel Vitruk and Germany's Max Coga, as well as a middleweight fight between UFC veteran Luigi Fioravanti and Nodar Kudukhasvili.

The preliminary portion of the fight card is yet to be officially announced.

M-1 Challenge will be streamed live on www.M1Global.TV.
