Although not the most entertaining of fight cards, the UFC Fight Night: Boston event served its purpose as a showcase event for Conor McGregor, who cemented his claim to Jose Aldo's featherweight title with a win over Dennis Siver. Several other fighters earned notable wins on the card, as well as deepened their pockets with post fight bonuses.
As expected, UFC standout and contender Conor McGregor lived up to expectations on Sunday and defeated Dennis Siver with exceptional ease in the second round of their main event match-up. The Irishman looked fascinatingly comfortable during the fight and controlled every aspect of the contest en route to the vicious ground and pound finish. The win secured his title shot against Jose Aldo later this year and gave him an extra $50,000 to boot.
Lorenz Larkin took home the other performance bonus with his TKO win against the durable John Howard. Larkin blitzed ‘Doomsday' in under three minutes of fight time and snapped a three-fight losing skid, which will likely have also saved his job with the promotion.
The second Fight Pass prelim between Sean O'Connell and Matt Van Buren was awarded the Fight of the Night honours for their entertaining - and somewhat messy - fight. Van Buren drilled O'Connell with vicious knees throughout the fight but was eventually worn down and knocked out late in the fight by the resilient O'Connell.
