UFC Fight Night 59 prelims results: Spencer robbed, Larkin picks up TKO win

New, comments

The UFN 59 prelims are in the books, and Lorenz Larkin put up the most impressive performance. Oh, and there was a total robbery.

Cathal Pendred defeats Sean Spencer by unanimous decision !? (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

The featured preliminary bout of the UFC Fight Night 59 prelims saw Irsh fighter Cathal Pendred taking on Sean Spencer, and featured a candidate for robbery of the year. And it's only January. Spencer beat Pendred up for most of the three rounds, having him badly hurt in the first and stunned again later in the fight. Pendred tried very hard to get takedowns but was rarely able to succeed and even when he did, Spencer was able to get up quickly. I'm not sure what else to say other than Spencer clearly won. Clear as day. Not even close.

Lorenz Larkin defeats John Howard by TKO (strikes), 2:17 of round 1 - Larkin's welterweight debut was exactly what he needed, as he picked up the first-round TKO over a guy with a pretty good chin. He finished it by clubbing Howard with a couple of rights, then following up with a flurry against the cage after Howard went down. The win ended Larkin's three--fight losing streak and extended Howard's losing streak to three.

Chris Wade defeats Zhang Lipeng by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-26) - Lipeng was finally deducted a point after his third groin shot (the first came four seconds into the fight). The bout was pretty uneventful and mostly contested in the clinch. Lipeng fought off takedowns for a while, but Wade wore him down and out-wrestled him over the second half of the fight.

Patrick Holohan defeats Shane Howell by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) - Holohan was all over the Oklahoman for the entire fight, out-wrestling him and coming close to finishing the fight by submission multiple times. Howell showed some tenacity getting to the final horn, but it was all Irish in this bout.
