Carla Esparza wary of challenge ahead: Joanna Jedrzejczyk could knock me out

UFC strawweight champion Carla Esparza spoke to members of the media at UFC 182, and discussed her upcoming title defense against Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Since losing a split decision to Jessica Aguilar at Bellator 46, Carla Esparza has remained undefeated over the past four years of competition - a streak that has seen her in both the Invicta strawweight title, as well as the inaugural UFC belt.

However, the champion was not shy to admit that her expected upcoming challenger Joanna Jedrzejczyk is a dangerous threat to her reign. .

"Joanna obviously has great striking, very powerful. I don't think there are a lot of girls who can get knockouts in the lighter divisions. It happens but is a little more rare. So, to have her be so powerful - I know she is very dangerous and she could knock me out. She has very good defense, so I know she is going to be a hard fight."

Apart from Jedrzejczyk, Esparza was pleasantly surprised by the improvements of her fellow fighters on the TUF 20 cast.

"I checked out (the show) a little bit on Fight Pass but I couldn't find it. I saw a couple of the fights. I thought the card was great and there was a lot of talent, even people that I fought in the house. Angela Hill looked phenomenal; Jessica Penne looked great; Tecia Torres looked great; they all pretty much dominated their fights."
