The UFC's next big Fox card is filling up fast. The promotion announced, today that top flyweights Jussier da Silva and John Moraga are set to face off on the Pheonix card this December. Formiga is coming off the back of a surprisingly dominant win over Zach Makovsky at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. St. Preux. The win was Formiga's second in a row, having bested Scott Jorgensen via a controversial submission stoppage back in March, and cemented the former consensus no. 1 flyweight as a top tier contender once again.
John Moraga is, himself, coming off an unexpected victory where he pulled off the second round submission to defeat rising prospect Justin Scoggins at UFC Fight Night Jacare vs. Mousasi. The win was a badly needed one for Moraga, who's been dogged by criticism of his consistent top 5 ranking at flyweight which has had little to recommend it beyond a surprise title shot against Demetrious Johnson. He's pulled off narrow split decision over Dustin Ortiz since, but it's a fight many felt he lost. His Scoggins win marks the second time he's pulled out an impressive submission to come from behind in a fight. Formiga should have the grappling chops to stay out of danger there, but overall this promises to be a solid competition between two fighters who still have a lot to prove in terms of their title aspirations in the 125 lb division.
