Chris Weidman's broken hand postpones Vitor Belfort fight, Hendricks vs. Lawler II now headlines UFC 181

UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is out of his UFC 181 main event showdown with Vitor Belfort, but the UFC has since confirmed a Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler welterweight title rematch in its place.

Nothing like a dose of bad news to start off your week, as UFC middleweight contender Vitor Belfort posted a statement on his Facebook page, saying that champion Chris Weidman broke his hand and is out of their UFC 181 main event bout on December 6th.

I've just received the news that Chris Weidman broke his hand and, for what everything points to, our fight is gonna be moved to February.

The quote from Belfort was later confirmed by UFC president Dana White to MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani.

Additionally, the new UFC 181 headliner is now a welterweight title rematch between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler.

The timing of Hendricks/Lawler as the new main event comes just days after it was reported that Hendricks was likely not going to be ready until early 2015.

Another day, another UFC champion shelved due to injury. As it stands now, Anthony Pettis, Cain Velasquez, Jon Jones, and Weidman will have fought no more than once this year. Hendricks was on his way to being a part of this list until today's news broke and he's apparently ready to take on Lawler this December.
