Miesha Tate did what she had to do to record her first UFC winning streak, as she took out the previously unbeaten Japanese star Rin Nakai by unanimous decision in Saitama. Tate has picked up wins over Nakai and Liz Carmouche this year, and she's looking to build up enough wins to get another title shot. Fellow contender and Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann tweeted out her interest in taking on Tate:
Hey @ufc, I'd like to fight @MieshaTate since she just beat an undefeated fighter Rin Nakai.
— Sara McMann (@Sara_McMann) September 20, 2014
McMann (8-1) was Ronda Rousey's ensuing opponent after the champ tapped out Tate with another armbar to close out 2013. While McMann avoided the armbar, she was instead disposed of with a knee to the body en route to a 69 second TKO loss. The 33-year-old did rebound with a split decision win over Lauren Murphy.
When you look at the current rankings, Tate and McMann are ranked right next to each other at #2 and #3, so perhaps this is something the UFC shouldn't dismiss and should try booking, but I'm not necessarily sure that either woman is in an advantageous position to parlay a hypothetical match-up directly into another title shot.
