UFC targeting Edgar/Swanson, Jung/Corassani for October 4th Sweden show

Two featherweight bouts are being targeted for an October 4th Sweden show, including a potential main event between Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson.

A pair of big fights could be headed for Sweden this October pertaining to the featherweight division. On last night's episode of UFC TonightAriel Helwani reported that talks are being made to have Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson headline UFC Fight Night on October 4th in Stockholm. The original target date was for November or December, but the UFC is trying to get the two top contenders to square off on the Stockholm card, which doesn't have a main event.

Swanson (21-5) seemingly earned his title shot with a decision win over Jeremy Stephens in June, but it looks like the delayed title fight between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, which is now at UFC 179 in October, has put Cub in a situation where he has to win one more time. Edgar (17-4-1) is coming off a dominant TKO over B.J. Penn in the main event of the TUF 19 Finale. The former lightweight champ and one-time featherweight title challenger also holds a win over Charles Oliveira.

I must say, as much as I like the fight (even though I'm not sure Swanson should be taking another bout), agree with it being a main event, I'm totally against having a fight of this caliber being stuck on Fight Pass. This is a main event that should be televised in the US and it's a waste to have Edgar and Swanson on this platform. Hopefully they find something else suitable for October 4th and this bout can be a main event of a Fox Sports 1 or Fox card.

Meanwhile, the other contest that's possible for UFC Fight Night Sweden features the return of "The Korean Zombie" Chan Sung Jung (13-4) against Sweden's own Akira Corassani (12-4, 1 NC). If finalized, it would be Jung's first fight since injuring his shoulder and losing via 4th round TKO vs. Jose Aldo at UFC 163 last August. Corassani is coming off a 2nd round TKO loss to Dustin Poirier in April, which ended his undefeated run in the UFC.

Bloody Elbow will provide updates on both of these unconfirmed fights as they become available.
