The weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. dos Anjos deviated from the norm a little bit when Tulsa, Oklahoma authorities arrested one of the cornermen. James Lee Mein, 47, was taken on a warrant for sexual battery according to Tulsa Voice reporter Beau Taylor's twitter.
Mein was at the weigh-ins in his capacity as a cornerman for his son, UFC Welterweight Jordan Mein, who's facing Mike Pyle in the co-main event of tonight's card.
Tulsa authorities posted the elder Mein's booking card and mug shot last night.
There is no doubt this will impact Jordan Mein's psyche as he prepares for tonight's bout. He was pegged as a short-notice replacement for Demian Maia against Pyle just a little over two weeks ago so this distraction cannot help. It's hard enough to fight a tough veteran like Mike Pyle on a very abbreviated training camp without having the additional stress and embarrassment of something like this.
UPDATE: The UFC has released a statement on the Mein arrest, via MMA Fighting:
We were made aware that James Lee Mein, father of UFC competitor Jordan Mein, was arrested yesterday on allegations of felony sexual assault. Mr. Mein is accused of sexually assaulting a housekeeper at the UFC's host hotel in Tulsa, Okla.
The UFC finds the allegations against Mr. Mein deplorable and we fully support local law enforcement in its investigation. The UFC is also prohibiting Mr. Mein from attending tonight's event should he post bail.
Jordan Mein will remain on tonight's card.
