UFC welterweight Brandon Thatch out of Jordan Mein fight after gruesome compound toe fracture

A horrific toe injury has forced rising welterweight prospect Brandon Thatch out of an anticipated clash with Jordan Mein, which was scheduled for UFC Fight Night in Tulsa in three weeks time.

One of the more highly anticipated match-ups this month was an August 23rd showdown between exciting welterweights Brandon Thatch and Jordan Mein. Thatch had subbed in for the injured Thiago Alves, providing arguably an upgrade in "violence potential". Unfortunately, Thatch suffered a compound fracture on his left toe, which he graciously tweeted to his followers. (You'll have to click on the image below to see the full extent of the break)

No word yet on a replacement for Thatch (11-1), but with a fellow main card welterweight bout between Demian Maia and Mike Pyle also on tap, it's conceivable that one of those two could slot in to face Canada's Mein. It's definitely not a "huge" fight in terms of importance to the top 10 of the division, but it's a big blow to the card as guaranteed entertainment.

UFC Fight Night: Tulsa airs live on Fox Sports 1 and features lightweights Ben Henderson and Rafael dos Anjos in the main event, with Thales Leites and Francis Carmont in the co-main.
