As if the UFC didn't have enough injured champions, their best fighter won't be competing again until the start of 2015. As reported by Ariel Helwani, light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is out of his scheduled UFC 178 main event spot vs. Daniel Cormier, and the fight has now been moved to the traditional New Year's show:
Official: Jon Jones injured, Daniel Cormier fight moved to Jan. 3.

According to MMA Fighting, Jones tore his meniscus in his left knee and sprained his ankle on Monday.
This is an absolute hammer blow to the UFC and its fans, as the rivalry between these two reached a boiling point last week when the two men were caught up in an on-stage brawl at the UFC 178 media day event in Las Vegas. A war of words has been exchanged on a near daily basis, and with each passing comment/insult/threat, interest in this rivalry and the fight itself grew significantly. Now we'll have to wait more than 5 additional months to see this bout happen.
Meanwhile, the new UFC 178 main event is a flyweight title fight between Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso, which was originally the co-main event of UFC 177.
That's really all you need to know, I'm afraid. The injury monster has struck again.
Update: Per a UFC press release, anyone who bought tickets for UFC 178 will be offered a full refund upon request at point of sale only. The deadline to receive a refund is August 22nd.
