Mark your calendars for July 17th. That's the date that the Nevada Attorney General has set as the cutoff to receive former UFC Middleweight star, Chael Sonnen's response on whether he'll be appealing a disciplinary complaint in the wake of two separate drug test failures.
MMA Junkie obtained a copy of the complaint which indicates a possible $250,000 fine, suspension of his license, expenses related to the complaint and provision of a clean drug test should he apply for a license again. The commission gives the licensee 20 days to respond to a complaint. Nevada sent Chael's via certified mail on June 27th.
The complaint lists the two failed drug tests along with the banned substances that were found in his system:
- anastrozole
- clomifene
- human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG)
- human growth hormone (HGH)
- recombinant human erythropoietin
There is also a letter of explanation from Sonnen regarding the first failed test. There is no correspondence about the second test failure, though. As always, we will keep our readers up to date with more information on this story as it becomes available.
