Not only did Ronda Rousey look remarkable on Saturday night, the champion also earned the second fastest title defence in UFC history when she demolished Canada's Alexis Davis in exactly 16 seconds of fight time. Rousey grabbed ahold of Davis, flipped into side control and proceeded to smother her with punches until referee Yves Lavigne mercifully stepped in to stop the contest.
While some may have initially considered it to be a premature stoppage, it would become clear a few seconds later that Davis was barely conscious, as she grabbed at the referee and attempted a takedown.
Official result: Ronda Rousey def. Alexis Davis via KO (Strikes, Round 1, 0:16)
What was the high point of the fight?
Considering the fight lasted all of sixteen seconds, the high point is basically the entire thing. It was a particularly dominant display from the champion, who revealed after her win that she is scheduled to undergo surgery on her right knee.
Where do these two go from here?
Rousey continues to surpass all expectations with each of her octagon outings. She is now 10-0 as a professional and 4-0 in the UFC. The champ will continue to defend her title against any worthy challengers, but it highly unlikely that we will see her in the octagon again until the end of the year.
Davis, however, will be faced with the pressure of rebounding from her first UFC loss. A potential match-up for the Canadian could be the loser between Miesha Tate and Rin Nakai.
Watch now, later or never?
Watch now. Ronda Rousey is leaps and bounds ahead of the current UFC competition and that is evident in her rapid victory over the formidable Alexis Davis.
