The preliminary portion of the UFC 175 fight card concluded with an entertaining collision between bantamweights Urijah Faber and Alex Caceres. It was a fight that outraged fans for not being a part of the Pay-Per-View broadcast, but hardly any complained once it was over.
The early moments of the contest were quite telling, as Faber struggled to get Caceres to the ground and hold him there. Once he got into a comfortable position, he cruised through the majority of the round. Caceres did defend decently from the guard but Faber occasionally snuck in a vicious elbow or punch to wear down his opponent.
The second round was more competitive, as Caceres managed to hit several combinations on Faber from the outside. Eventually, Faber got the fight to the ground again but struggled to maintain position. The majority of the fight took place in the clinch, where Caceres was noticeably competent, but still had to contend with Faber smothering him.
The third and final round lasted less than 70 seconds, as Faber dropped Caceres early in the round and secured a rear-naked choke a few moments later.
Official Result: Urijah Faber def. Alex Caceres via Submission (RNC, Round 3, 1:09)
Earlier on in the evening, Rob Font made an emphatic statement in his UFC debut, as he knocked out veteran George Roop in the opening round of their match-up. On the Fight Pass prelims, Kevin Casey needed just 61 seconds to successfully return to the UFC's middleweight division, as he dispatched Bubba Bush with elbow strikes while on top of him.
