Dana White: If Nick Diaz beats Anderson Silva he could fight for a title

UFC President Dana White revealed that Anderson Silva is “chomping at the bit” to return to the octagon and that Nick Diaz could potentially fight for a title with a win over the division’s former kingpin.

Apart from making the monumental announcement that Nick Diaz vs. Anderson Silva would headline the UFC 183 Super Bowl card on January 31st, the promotion's head honcho, Dana White, had a few interesting things to say regarding Diaz's chances of getting back to a title shot.

"Nick Diaz is a very popular fighter as it is. If he comes in and beats Anderson Silva, absolutely, he could fight for a title. He is right in there. It would be a huge, huge win for him."

White, who was having lunch with Anderson Silva before he joined ESPN's SportsCenter to break the news, revealed that the former middleweight champion is "chomping at the bit" to return to the octagon after getting clearance from his doctors to fight.

"Anderson Silva feels great. It will have been a 13-month layoff. In boxing a lot of fighters are off 13 months before their next fight. He is 100 percent healthy. He is kicking again, feels great, and is chomping at the bit to get back in the octagon again.

"Diaz is excited for this fight too. We met with him last week. It will be two years that he is off since his last fight. So they are both excited to get back to work."

UFC 183 is scheduled to take place January 31st. The venue is yet to be determined.
