Anthony Johnson continued his stampede through the light-heavyweight ranks, as he earned a spectacular KO win over Antonio Rogerio Nogueria.
The end came just 44 seconds into the opening round of the bout, as Johnson found his range and landed a pair of devastating uppercuts to separate ‘Lil Nog' from his senses. The win was such a flawless victory that Nogueira failed to land a single strike before he was sent tumbling to the canvas.
Official result: Antony Johnson def. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira via KO (Strikes, Round 1, 0:44)
What was the high point of the fight?
With less than a minute of action, the entire contest can be viewed as the high point of the fight. Johnson stalked his prey until he managed to find the necessary opening to close out the match in ferocious fashion.
Where do these two go from here?
Johnson is now 2-0 since returning to the UFC and is riding an eight-fight win streak since losing to Vitor Belfort in his last stint with the promotion. While he has clearly proven to be one of the fiercest competitors in the light-heavyweight division, UFC President Dana White said he would need another fight to move into contender status.
Many have called for Rogerio Nogueira's retirement following his brutal KO loss on Saturday night which, when considered from an objective standpoint, makes perfect sense. Nogueira may have held a win over Rashad Evans 18 months ago but his recent string of injuries and age would make his return to the octagon a reckless decision.
Watch now, later or never?
Watch now. While it was sad to witness a 38-year-old man suffer such a devastating knockout so late in his career, Johnson's efforts are certainly worth an immediate viewing.
