Dana White has been working on signing the former 'face of women's MMA' in Gina Carano, stating in the past week that a deal was close, and he expected it to get done soon. During the UFC on FOX 12 post-fight press conference, White was asked for an update, and while he still seems confident of getting her signed, the UFC president hinted at some potential snags in the negotiations.
"It's complicated", White said at the presser, "I'm very positive about it, but it's complicated. I'm still working on it. That's all I can say. It's complicated."
It was earlier stated that if Carano gets signed, she may be put in an immediate title fight against Ronda Rousey by the end of the year. This means that while she hasn't won since 2008, her popularity and status in the sport will still make her leap frog several contenders in the division. While some people may not take too lightly to the idea, contenders such as Holly Holm has no problems with this seeing as Carano was a huge catalyst on helping usher Women's MMA into the mainstream.
While White didn't go in to detail on any of the issues on getting a deal done, there were reports that stated some potential scheduling issues that could conflict with Carano's acting career. Another thing to consider is the fact that they will be asking her to drop down in weight, after competing on a higher division and being out for an extended period.
The 32-year-old star in Carano is 7-1 in her career, but she hasn't fought in the past 5 years. She did make 135 lbs during her MMA debut in 2006, but has had trouble making 140 or even 145 lbs during her subsequent bouts.
