UFC on Fox 12 Main Card (Fox at 8:00 p.m. ET)
R1: Brown probes with long lefts while moving forward but Lawler freezes him with a nasty counter combo. Brown's high kick misses and Lawler dings him with a short right. Lawler almost connecting at will with short but lightning-fast salvos. Brown sails a lead hook wide and it glances but his follow-up right wobbles Lawler, who smiles while retreating to regain his wits. Brown lands another glancing right but tacks on two horizontal elbows from the single collar tie.
They tie up and Brown hits a beautiful throw and maintains control with a D'arce grip from the front headlock. Lawler breaks the grip and stands, holding Brown on the fence and tagging him with a left hook. Brown goes for a foot sweep and switches to a body knee, then thwacks Lawler with a short elbow. Another knee to the body and elbow to the head combo from Brown. Lawler steps back and dings Brown with a crushing left, then scores with another. Left roundhouse kick lands to the face of Brown as the momentum swings back towards Lawler. 10-9 to Lawler for a slight edge in overall violence, even though an 11-10 seems more appropriate. Could have been a 10-10 or gone either way though.
R2: We're a bit more methodical to start the second with both men being selective. Brown lands a body kick and then might have slipped in a low kick after missing with a spinning back fist. Brown gets Lawler down from the clinch but can't keep him there nor secure back control as he escapes. Short left for Lawler is answered by a short right from Brown.
No dice on Brown's front kick. Lawler thuds a left to Brown's jaw and he answers back with a spinning kick to the body. Lawler side-steps Brown's incoming elbow and just misses with the right hook counter. Brown vaults forward looking for the single collar tie but can't stay connected and misses with a lunging elbow. Left body kick from Lawler, then Lawler spins for another but holds back, and continues the rotation to land another. 10-9 edge to Lawler in another very tight round.
R3: Brown shoots a double from distance with no set up and looks to pick the ankle to complete it. Lawler leans over and spikes down a hard elbow that Joe Rogan says has popped open a cut on Brown's eye. Lawler connects with a low left after Brown blocks a pair of his high kicks. Tight-range hook lands for Lawler. Brown bursts forward with a combo but Lawler steps inside to jam it.
Lawler kicks to the body but Brown reacts like it landed low and the replay shows it may have been legal. They restart quickly with Lawler winging a right hook and left high kick. Brown's output seems to have diminished until he boots Lawler to the ribs with a sharp kick. Stomp kick to the knee from Brown. Lawler lands with the foot on a high kick and Brown barely blinks. A left gets through for Lawler before the horn sounds. 10-9 Lawler.
R4: Lawler catches Brown's kick and converts the takedown. Lawler steps over into half guard with the knee-pin pass. Brown overhooks the head and Lawler bangs a few lefts off his ribs, persuading Brown to let go. Lawler thunders a left hand while taking back control, then heaves Brown back to the canvas with the rear waist cinch. Brown throws a low kick and then fakes another with a question mark kick.
Lead elbow lands for Brown but Lawler counters simultaneously. Another right hook/left high kick medley for Lawler. Brown now hesitant on his entries due to Lawler's quick, stinging counters. 10-9 Lawler.
R5: They both meet in the center and touch off the canons. Brown shellacks Lawler with a step-in horizontal elbow. Lawler presses forward with punches and jams Brown on the fence. They separate and Brown probes with his right hand, then lands a teep to the breadbasket. More body punches from Brown. Brown emptying the chamber now and trying to overwhelm Lawler but shakes out his hand after a combo, possibly having damaged it.
Undaunted, Brown keeps throwing leather and scores with another step-in elbow, a right body kick and bobs Lawler's head back with a nasty right hand. Lawler returns fire but doesn't seem to land clean. Brown whiffs with a spinning back fist and Lawler pops him with a short left. Left body kick from Lawler with 30 seconds left. Brown heaves a combo and dives for a takedown, and he's greeted with a soccer kick from Lawler when he re-rights himself. 10-9 Brown. I have it 49-46 for Lawler.
- Robbie Lawler defeats Matt Brown by unanimous decision (49-46 x 2, 48-47)
R1: Johnson wobbles Nogueira with a wide left and then wades forward to hammer a clean uppercut that snaps the Brazilian's head back. Johnson stay on the trigger and the referee mercifully intervenes after a quadruple-sandwich of clubbing rights.
- Anthony Johnson defeats Antonio Rogerio Nogueira by TKO (punches) at 0:44 of Round 1
R1: Bermudez opens with a body kick. Right hand distraction and sharp outside low kick for Bermudez, who limp-legs out of Guida's single leg attempt. Guida clinches and puts Bermudez on the fence but Bermudez snaps his head down with the front headlock, then breaks the clinch with a knee to the face. Guida lands a jab but Bermudez jiggles his curls with a stiff right hand. Two jabs set up another Bermudez low kick.
A pair of uppercuts find the mark for Bermudez, who gets tangled up with Guida and avoids his attempt to secure back control. Bermudez again fires off a knee on the clinch break and it looks to find Guida's eye, which is dribbling blood. Bermudez steam-rolls Guida with a whirlwind of heavy leather and then grounds him big brother style, taking back mount. He looks for the mata leao but can't get his forearm under the chin. Guida pauses to smile at the camera while hand-fighting the choke. 10-9 Bermudez.
R2: Guida sneak in a quick right on his way into the clinch but Bermudez sprawls out on his single leg attempt. Side kick to the knee lands for Guida. Guida bobs his head down into an uppercut. An overhand counter grazes the top of Bermudez's head and he tags Guida with a short shot in response. Guida lands a swiping right hand but Bermudez snaps his head back with his follow-up right.
Guida sets up a wide right hand that glances and Bermudez takes him down and teleports into back mount, and he's able to finish with the choke this time.
- Dennis Bermudez defeats Clay Guida by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:57 of Round 2
R1: Sharp outside low kick from Thomson, then another. Thomson is all smiles at Green's kick attempt. Green just misses with a right hand and Thomson stumbles while evading it. More wide grins from Thomson in response to Green's kicks. Thomson fires back with a right/left kick combo, then pieces together a one-two. Body kick from Green but Thomsons answers with a stiff left to the jaw. Glancing left high kick from Thomson. Left kick lands for Green to the body.
Thomson catches a unintentional poke to the eye and we pause while he recovers. Another left kick slips through to the body for Green, then a roundhouse kick to the upper thigh connects with a crack. Thomson chambers off a pressuring flurry but Green seems to dodge or reflect each shot. Green smacks another right kick off Thomson's thigh. 10-9 Green for landing more cleaner blows.
R2: Thomson starts with a jumping left switch kick. Green answers with body kick that Thomson can't intercept. Green gets his guard in front of a Thomson high kick just in time, and lets him know as much. They both trade combinations and Thomson gets the better of the back and forth. Green comes back with a right to the body and sequential right body kicks that look to sneak through.
Counter right lands for Green, who keeps a running conversation going with Thomson. Double roundhouse kicks from Green, one low and one high after Thomson flashes a combo. Thomson bores a right hand through Green's defense. Green finds the mark with a light left but Thomson unleashes a three-punch combo and changes levels for a takedown. Green pops right back up. Short right for Green before Thomson plunges a front kick to the body. 10-10 for my perception of an even and back and forth striking round.
R3: Green takes a preying mantis-esque stance to begin the third. Thomson's spinning back fist is just short. Green shoots and Thomson actually laughs whilst negating it, but Green swings a right hand across his face before they separate. Thomson blocks a flying knee and catches the offending limb but he's unable to convert it into a takedown. Nothing on Green's next low kick and Thomson dodges the follow up punches and front kick.
Thomson with an outside low kick, then two overhand right counter shots. Thomson stays on the trigger and Green clinches up in pursuit of a single. Thomson is down for a second but back up and bombing hammer-fists to Green's head in a flash. Thomson has either sustained or aggravated a cut as blood trickles down from his head. Green's gone away from his kicks and his offense suffers because of it. Glancing overhand right from Thomson before his switch kick misses. Thomson comes back with a right hand after Green's left and heaves a monstrous roundhouse kick before the horn sounds. 10-9 Thomson, leaving my card as a draw.
- Bobby Green defeats Josh Thomson by split decision (28-29, 29-28 x 2)
