Another important contest in the welterweight division will likely be slotted to take place in the fall, as Rory MacDonald and Tarec Saffiedine are expected to meet on the October 4 Fight Night card in Halifax.
UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani reported that he two notable welterweights are currently in preliminary talks to headline the event.
Since losing a split decision to Robbie Lawler at UFC 167, Canada's Rory MacDonald has picked up two consecutive wins in 2014, first against Demian Maia, with the second being a dominant decision win over Tyron Woodley.
Former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine has been out of competition since a January win over Hyun Gyu Lim in Singapore. Twice the welterweight was slotted in match-ups against Jake Ellenberger, the most recent of which was at UFC 172. Saffiedine withdrew from that scheduled contest after suffering an undisclosed injury during training.
UFC Fight Night: Halifax is scheduled to take place October 4 at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
