Myles Jury out, Abel Trujillo removed from UFC Fight Night: San Antonio

New, 11 comments

Top 10 ranked lightweight Myles Jury is out of his June 28th meeting with Abel Trujillo, which has forced the UFC to do some re-shuffling of their San Antonio card.

If we're being brutally honest about UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens, it is sorely lacking top 15 fighters. In fact, when the fight card was finalized earlier this week, there were only 5 fighters out of a possible 26 ranked in the UFC's official system. Yesterday it was reported by Damon Martin of Fox Sports that #9 ranked Myles Jury is out of his main card bout with Abel Trujillo, and while the initial plan was to move Frank Trevino from his prelim bout against Joe Ellenberger to face Trujillo, it appears that Trevino has also been pulled from the card. The bad news for Trujillo is that he ultimately won't fight at all on June 28th.

Ellenberger, who had already seen his UFC debut pushed back because Yancy Medeiros stepped up to face Jim Miller at UFC 172 at the last minute, does have a new opponent for this card in Johnny Case (13-4). The Iowa native is just 24 years old and has won his last 7 bouts, including a split decision against E.J. Brooks in Resurrection Fighting Alliance.

As for Jury, his injury appears to be minor based on the words of his manager Ryan Hass. If Trujillo is indeed off the card then it's possible the UFC could just re-book them for a show in late summer.

The UFC Fight Night San Antonio main card currently has just 5 fights, so unless they make another booking they might be forced to bump one of their prelims up. This is definitely a big blow to a show that isn't too stocked on current or potential contenders.
