UFC and Fox terminate relationship with Chael Sonnen following second failed drug test in 2014

One of the immediate concerns following Saturday night's revelation that Chael Sonnen had failed yet another drug test, this time including "major performance enhancing drugs" such as HGH and EPO, was how Fox and the UFC would handle the situation. It appears that we now know the answer to that question, with Sonnen bounced from both organizations.

Sonnen had become a sort of spokesman for the UFC, with Dana White going so far as to suggest that Sonnen could run the company some day, and was a regular presence in the studio at Fox Sports 1 on shows such as UFC Tonight.

While the broadcast of UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Stephens on FS1 completely ignored the failed test until after dissecting such important things as deep undercard bouts from earlier in the evening, an MMA Junkie report from earlier this evening announced that Fox, as well as the UFC have parted ways with Sonnen.

There have been no official comments at this time from Sonnen. Fox and the UFC released the following short statement:

The UFC and FOX Sports organizations announced today the termination of their respective broadcasting services agreements with analyst Chael Sonnen. This decision comes in light of Sonnen failing a second test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission for banned substances in June. Sonnen was previously under temporary suspension by the Nevada Athletic Commission for failing an initial test conducted in May.
