Here are some of the better prospects in action this weekend.
Island Fights - 9 May - Pensacola, FL
Dillon Cleckler (4-0) vs. Jonathan Ivey (30-50)
Cleckler was a college football player at Southern Miss, and brings some good power into the cage. He has three 1st round KO/TKOs on his record, and last time out submitted his opponent in the 2nd round. This fight was originally suppose to happen in February before Ivey pulled out.
This will be "Beast Boy" second fight of 2014 after not fighting for nearly three full years between 2011-2014. Over the course of that time he saw four fights fall through, including a Bellator fight, and MFC championship fight with highly regarded HW prospect Smealinho Rama. A variety of injuries, and then a no show at the weigh ins for a 2013 fight with his opponent White, have pushed Barnett out of the view of talent scouts. His only loss is to Bellator vet Eric Prindle, while he holds solid wins over Walter Harris and Mario Rinaldi in his career.
Chaz Morgan (6-0) vs. Aubrey Collier (1-0)
Morgan is a former linebacker for Tulane University who has now transitioned his athletic ability to MMA. He is like a bull in a China shop, looking to close the distance and impose his power on his opponents through a clinch and slam. He is now training with American Top Team in Florida so he is in a great environment to improve his MMA game.
MFC - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Croom, "the Hard Hitting Hillbilly" has won 11 in a row. He has a high school wrestling background and has really started coming into his own over the last few years. He was scheduled to fight Anthony Birchak for the MFC BW title, but that fight was scratched. His last three losses back in 2010-2011 came to UFC vets Yaotzin Meza, Ramiro Hernandez, and to WSOF LW Champ Justin Gaethje.
Marcus Edwards (7-2) vs. Aaron Gallant (6-5)
Edwards is a training partner of Chris Camozzi, and Joe Warren. He lost his pro debut to Justin Gaethje, and his only other loss was a split decision to Efrain Escudero. From the Escudero loss he has said that he needs to improve his transitions from Striking and grappling, as he has moments in both areas, but doesn't blend them as well as he'd like to.
Pancrase - 11 May - Tokyo, Japan
Nakai has a Judo background and has completed exclusively in Japan over the years. It has been stated that she has received some favorable rulings from her home country organizers in some of her fights, but also has some good legit wins on her record. Last time out she defeated Tara Larosa in a FLW fight.
Review from last week:
Superior Challenge - 3 May - Helsingborg, Sweden
Yosef Ali Mohammad (4-1) needed just over a minute to submit Mike Neun (3-3).
Cage Warriors FC - 3 May - Liverpool, England
Danny Roberts (11-1) scored the biggest win of his career with a 1st round TKO over Bellator vet Jim Wallhead (25-9)
Gladiators of the Cage - 3 May - Johnstown, PA
Chris Dempsey (9-1) finished Nick Kraus (8-3) late in the 3rd round of their scheduled 5 round fight.
Jungle Fight - 3 May - Itu, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Nildo Nascimento (4-2) won the Jungle Fight FLW title by stopping Rayner Silva (5-2) in the 2nd round. After losing his first two pro fights, Nascimento has won four in a row.
I'm not perfect, if I've missed a prospect let me know in the comments section.
